What to Expect at Pickup

If this is your first time shipping a vehicle, you may be wondering how the pick-up of your vehicle will go. Continue reading for all the info you’ll need to have a smooth pickup.

What to Do During a Pickup

First, before the carrier comes to pick up your vehicle, they should call you 24 hours in advance to let you know what time they will be there. If they do not call, you can also reach out to them to get an update from them.

Once the carrier arrives, he will do an inspection of your car. This is a great opportunity to take some pictures of your vehicle with the carrier’s truck in the frame so that there can be no confusion as to the condition of your vehicle at the time of pickup.

Once the inspection is done, he will hand you a BOL (Bill of Lading). Make sure that all the information on the BOL is correct. If you are unsure about anything, make sure to bring it up. This includes where he may have marked damage on your vehicle. Ask him to show you the damage.

Once you have confirmed everything is right on the BOL, you will sign it and hand the driver the key. At this point, the vehicle is in the carrier’s possession. They will load the vehicle onto the trailer, strap it down, and drive off!

What is a BOL?

A bill of lading is a legal document used in the shipping industry to provide specifics about cargo being shipped. It includes information about the vehicle, pickup, and delivery locations, and any damage that may be on the vehicle. This document serves as a contract between the transporter and the customer.

A car transport BOL also requires that signatures be obtained for the car transport document prior to shipping the vehicle. All signing parties for the BOL must be above the age of 18.

BOL’s serves as a way for companies to manage their shipping process more efficiently.
