Sherpa Auto Transport

The newest company on our list and the one with the most disciplined pricing. The Price Lock Promise does what it says. You pay for it up front.

Our take: Best for price certainty.

Sherpa quotes close to what carriers actually charge and then promises that number will not move, contributing up to $300 of its own fee if it has to. The result is the highest opening quote on this list and the lowest chance of a surprise. Its BBB and Google scores are the best of the five. The trade-offs are a card on file at booking, no RV or boat shipping, and estimated rather than guaranteed dates like everyone else.

How the Price Lock Promise works

Say Sherpa quotes $1,300, split as a $300 payment to Sherpa and $1,000 to the carrier. If it turns out a carrier wants $1,100, Sherpa takes $100 out of its own $300 and your total stays at $1,300. If the carrier wants $1,400, Sherpa has given up its whole fee and your price still holds. Past that, Sherpa would come back to you before doing anything, rather than springing a new number at pickup. The lock depends on accurate details: an inoperable car reported as running, or an undisclosed lift kit, voids it.

Why the quotes are higher

Sherpa prices near what carriers actually accept instead of near what gets you to click. That costs them some customers on comparison tables and earns them fewer angry ones later. If you compare Sherpa's quote against a competitor's final invoice rather than its opening quote, the gap usually closes.

What the reviews say

The most consistent review record of the five. Customers describe a carrier found within a couple of days, accurate pricing, and drivers who called ahead. The complaints are the generic broker ones: a quiet stretch while waiting for a carrier, and the occasional estimated window that stretched. Very few reviews mention the price changing, which is the whole point.

Who it is for

Anyone who has been burned by a bait-and-switch quote, first-time shippers who want one number to plan around, and military moves where the $100 discount applies. Not for RVs, boats, or anyone unwilling to put a card on file.

Questions people ask

Does Sherpa guarantee pickup dates?

No. Sherpa gives estimated windows and an expedited option. Dates are never guaranteed by any broker we recommend.

Is the Clean Car Guarantee real?

Yes. Wash the car within seven days of delivery and send the receipt with your bill of lading within 30 days; Sherpa reimburses up to $20.

When is my card charged?

Sherpa's portion is charged when a carrier is secured. The carrier's portion is paid at delivery unless you choose full prepayment.
